TruePoker Review

2.5

Rating

TruePoker.com was the first site to utilize life-like graphics in their poker software. Apparently, the idea was to make the game more like live poker. While they did a very nice job with that aspect, it failed to attract business. Why? Because, like the software at rival PKR.com, it's way too slow.

Online poker players want speed. It's one of the biggest reasons for playing online. When speed is compromised and the hands-per-hour rate drops, so do the players. We had trouble finding a good selection of available games on TruePoker. The traffic just isn't there.

(Note: This poker room does not allow U.S. players)

Customer Service and Support

Service at TruePoker was good. They have an automated online chat where you can talk to someone right away and they will assist you with your problem online. The customer service email is also very fast, and our questions were answered promptly. Unfortunately for TruePoker, their good customer service wasn't enough to make up for the slow software and lack of game selection.

Player Loyalty Program

The VIP Program at TruePoker is designed for high-stakes and low-stakes players alike. Although it isn't clear exactly how one earns points, we assume it is based upon the rake contributed. The more hands you play, the higher your percentage of cash back reward will be. At the end of every month, you will receive cash bonus rewards from 15% to 40%.

As a VIP, you also receive special promotions and entries into freeroll tournaments.

More About TruePoker

Poker Software

The software at TruePoker is a lot of fun at first. Every player has a character, and that character can do different things, all with auditory accompaniments. Every fold, bet, check or raise comes with a perfectly accented "I cal!" or "Forget it!"

And that's not all. TruePoker was the first to incorporate the ability to physically check your hole cards. When you want to take a peek, simply click your cards, and your player lifts up the corners and you can see your hand. When this occurs, every other player can see you check your hand as well.

While all of these bells and whistles seem to be a great addition to online poker software, we found the novelty to wear off rather quickly. The added features served no other purpose than slowing down the game to a snail's pace.

One other thing we noticed while reviewing the software was that the software itself is slow and a bit clunky. It seemed to lag quite a bit, and while we experienced no disconnections, the overall performance of the software was lacking.

Games and Limits

Like PKR, TruePoker only offers Hold'em and Omaha. There are no stud games. And while the players at TruePoker seemed a bit more plentiful, the selection of active games wasn’t nearly comparable to places like PartyPoker and EmpirePoker.

TruePoker has no-limit games with blinds of $.10 and $.20 up to $5/$10, and limit games from $.10/$.20 to $15/$30. They also offer one table sit-n-go tournaments and heads up tournaments with buy ins ranging from $1 to $107, and multi-table tournaments from $3 to $107.

As we mentioned, however, there just aren't very many games running at one time.
