Online Poker Odds Calculator

Online Poker Odds Calculator

Most Texas Hold'em players rely on a bit of skill, a large dose of luck, and a healthy smattering of bad beats to make money at the game.

But as more players start to take up the game and want to improve, even casual players are looking to get an advantage on their opponents.

An online poker odds calculator, like the one we feature here at OnlinePoker.com, can help you get a better appreciation of the odds involved in particular hands.

What Are the Benefits of a Poker Odds Calculator?

The main purpose of the poker odds calculator is to work out how often a particular hand will win, tie or lose against another, and with great software you can compare up to six hands at once.

Once you've set the number of hands you want to assess (you must choose at least two) you need to highlight the empty boxes and choose the two cards that will make up each hand.

Our online poker calculator is easy-to-use and can be adapted for a variety of games, not just Texas Hold'em. It works with Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, 7-Card Stud, 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo and Razz. If you're a seasoned online Hold'em player or venturing into the world of mixed games, this piece of nifty kit will give you a leg-up.

So, if you're always wondering whether chasing that two-outer holding 10-9 off-suit is worth it, or how much of a dog your pocket sixes really were against your opponent's straight draw, this poker probability calculator will help.

How Our Poker Calculator Online Works

How Our Poker Calculator Online Works

First, a clarification: the top poker odds calculator won't work while you're in the middle of a hand (there's simply not enough time to enter all the details) but it's great if you're having a session going through old hands.

So, how does the OnlinePoker.com poker odds calculator work in reality

Well, it takes a few factors into consideration:

  1. We have 52 cards in the poker deck
  2. We know how many cards are left in the deck after cards have been dealt out
  3. We know the number of outs (cards left) that we need to make a winning hand
  4. We know what those outs are

Once we know all these factors, the online poker calculator works out whether you were in a winning position or not.

Using our online poker odds calculator is easy: select your chosen game (Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, 7-Card Stud etc) and click on the cards on-screen to make your theoretical hand.

Once your hand is displayed, you can select your opponent's hand. Click on the 'Deal In' button to bring in another hand and select the cards on-screen to help form an opponent's hand.

Once you've finished, you can start selecting cards to be displayed as community cards. Select three to see what your odds would be on the flop, or add a Turn card to see what your odds would be after the Turn, and so on.

Once you have your board set up, click the 'Calculate Odds' button and your hands odds will be displayed on-screen. Now you can see whether you should have called that raise by your opponent or laid your hand down.

Let's take an example at how our online poker odds calculator can work for you.

You are dealt Ad 10d and from the hand history you discover your opponent had Kc Qc. By filling those two hands into the poker odds calculator you find that your odds of winning the hand pre-flop are 58.10% compared to your opponent's 41.41%.

Now you enter the flop cards: 9d 9h Ac

Hitting the Calculate Odds button reveals that you've soared to 94.55% against your opponent to win the hand.

However, in the hand your opponent continued to bet and the turn came a 10c to give you two-pair but your opponent a Royal Flush draw. Your odds have now dropped to just over 75% to take down the hand.

Although a 2c on the river made your hand dead as your opponent made his flush, it's still important to use the poker odds calculator to discover that with just one card to come you're a 75% chance to take the hand down there and then.

Of course, you're fading a lot of cards, namely every club, but a third 9 or 10 gives you a full house.

An online poker odds calculator like the one featured on our site may not turn you into an all-conquering pro, but it can really help with making decisions at various stages of a hand, particularly on the flop and turn. Give it a try and start going through some of your old hands to see if you could have played them differently.
